Bacon-Wrapped Garlic Cloves

Garlic Cloves wrapped in bacon
Nothing says “I love you” like the marriage of Bacon and Garlic… Okay, well that’s not entirely true, but this Valentine’s Day M decided to try to merge two of her favorite things: Fresh Garlic and Bacon.

She took a head of garlic, peeled all the cloves and then wrapped them in half slices of bacon, popped them in a pan and put them in an oven (preheated to 450) for 20 minutes. The kitchen smelled A.MAZ.ING!!

The bacon crisped up nicely and the garlic got soft and chewy.

M’s Valentine (Miguel*) was a bit leery of eating them because he had read the concerns expressed by our friends on Facebook when M proposed the idea. Nonetheless, he was brave and tried it. Of course, he went second, making M try the first one because he knows she cannot hide her facial expressions when something is gross.

It was strange because the garlic flavor had all but disappeared completely. The bacon had a tinge of garlic flavor but mostly all we tasted was the bacon. The bacon crunched, giving way to the soft garlic cloves that sort of “popped” when you bit into them and then just turned into an almost tasteless cheese-like consistency.

All in all, it wasn’t the best use of the two ingredients, but it also wasn’t a disaster. And that is really all we can hope for with M’s Kitchen Experiments.
